Eternal Love

"Eternal Love" is a representation of everlasting love.
The beautiful and gentle side of love, but also the hard and painful side and the changes thereof over time.

Materials: wire, stone, paper, string, pearl, glass, paint.

Before Design 1o1 I never worked with wire and stones. For this final assignment I choose these materials because  I wanted to use materials I also used during Design 1o1.  I enjoyed Week 11 ‘Telling Stories’ very much so the used materials of this week were definitely my first choice.

In each part of the work you see changes in the parameter ‘material’.  By changing this parameter the expression of the love flower changes and the story that is told evolves in time.

Flower 1: Eternal Tears in Blue

No particular kind of flower because beauty (literally and figuratively) is in the eye of the beholder.

The flower is made of a pearl, representing a tear and eternity.

The pearl is wrapped with blue, delicate paper representing the softness but also delicacy of love.

The flower is also made up of iron wire with spikes/torns  for love can be hard and painful.

Flower 2: Heavens Boulder

A stone, painted in heavens blue and wrapped in wire.

The stone represents lost loves.

They can be in heaven but also far far away.
In any case, a distance out of physical reach.

The wire represents sunshine and radiant air waves. The sun represents the cycles of death and rebirth and the warmth of true love

At the left top side, the wire is double folded representing the binding with heaven or any particular place.  A place where someone is forced attached to, can’t leave, or even a deliberately chosen place.

On the right bottom side, the wire is cut open and a piece is laying on the base of the flower, representing (trying) to make contact from a distance.

Flower 3: Indestructable connectedness

A forget me not, made out of transparent glass because of its hardness but also fragility.

The shine of the beads symbolizes the beautiful side of love again.

The spikes of the wire are the painful side that love (at distance) can bring.

The whole can be supplemented with two heart-shaped flowers.
A small heart shaped flower representing, again, the hard and painful side of love.
And a larger heart shaped flower.

The wire of the large flower is laced with a soft and glossy light blue string.
This string symbolizes the beautiful soft side of love which prevails in the core of this heart-shaped flower.

The double strand string is hooked by hand (without hook). This is the importance shown by direct, face-to-face contact and the possibility to touch each other in contrast to remote contact through any medium whatsoever.

The thread is broken in several places and is tied together... If you really care about someone or love someone, you'll meet again.

It rises above the rest because true love conquers all and is eternal.
